Women’s Self-Defense
Ask any group of women and femmes what they do to keep themselves safe, and you’ll get a thousand variations on the same answers. Here are just a few:
Always let someone know where you’re going and who you’re with.
Never go jogging at night.
Carry your keys between your fingers.
Carry a personal alarm.
Carry mace, a taser, a licensed weapon.
The list goes on and on, forever and ever. And we all know why. But let’s look at those last three - all good, helpful safety tools.
However.
Keys can be lost. Alarms can be ignored. Weapons can be fumbled, or even taken and used against you. But ya know what can’t be lost, ignored, or turned against you? These hands.
Kung fu training, even at its most basic level, can give you the skills to make any attacker painfully regret their life choices. Practice those skills a little bit every day, and they’ll sink into your muscles and bones until self defense is a reflex you don’t even have to think about.
The confidence of knowing that your fists can fly fast and deadly enough to get you out of danger can also help you avoid danger in the first place. Or rather, danger will avoid you.
Because predators are looking for easy prey, and this training makes you anything but. Women and femmes with kung fu training move through this world with our heads calmly on a swivel and our hands full of vicious potential. Bad guys pick up on that energy, our “I am not the one” vibe that makes them think twice.
Kung fu women are not easy targets. And we’re happy to share the skills that make us that way, so come join us at Denver Kung Fu on Oct 12. Let’s be badasses together.
